Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology - Burla

Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology stands at Burla, Odisha, at the foothill of the Hirakud dam. It was established on 12 August 1956 as University College of Engineering, set up to produce engineers who could manage the dam, and started with 20 students across civil, electrical and mechanical engineering. The college was transferred to Sambalpur University in January 1967 and to Biju Patnaik University of Technology in July 2002, then converted into a non-affiliating unitary university by Orissa Act 9 of 2009 from 1 July 2009. It occupies nearly 300 acres.
