The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), popularly known as JEE Advanced, is the second stage of the IIT JEE exams. Every year, the exam is conducted by one of seven Zonal IITs on behalf of JAB (Joint Admission Board). For the year 2022, the IIT Kharagpur will organize and conduct the exam on 3rd July 2022. By qualifying both JEE Main and Advanced, candidates will get admission into the elite IITs to pursue B.Tech (4 years), BS (4 years), B. Pharm (4 years), Integrated M.Tech (5 years), Integrated M.Sc (5 years), B.Arch (5 years), Dual Degree B.Pharm-M.Sc (5 years), Dual Degree B.Tech-M.Tech (5 years), and Dual Degree BS-MS (5 years) in Engineering, Science, Architecture and Pharmaceuticals.

Exam Overview

JEE Advanced is a yearly national-level entrance exam conducted for providing admissions in the engineering programs in one of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Bombay, and IIT Roorkee or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Admissions to Bachelor’s, Dual Degree programs (entry at the 10+2 level), and Integrated Master’s in all the 23 IITs, including the Indian School of Mines (ISM) are done based on ranks obtained by candidates who appeared and selected in JEE Advanced

Exam Pattern

  1. IIT JEE Advanced will be held via online mode only.
  2. The exam will have two compulsory papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2, which will be completed within the time duration of 3 hours each.
  3. The question papers of JEE Advanced will be available in English and Hindi Languages.
  4. The question papers will consist of objective type questions designed to test candidate’s academic, comprehensive, reasoning and analytical ability.
  5. Each question paper will have three separate sections, i.e. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  6. Negative marks will be awarded for incorrect answers for some of the questions.
  7. The candidates are advised to carefully read and adhere to the detailed instructions given in the question papers available at the time of examination.
  8. The candidates will have the option to choose (and also switch between) the preferred language anytime during the examination.

Eligibilty

  1. Qualifying Exam: The candidates who qualify the JEE Main exam and find a place in the top 2,50,000 are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. The number of candidates that are selected from each category are as follows:

Out of this number, the number of percentage of candidates equally eligible for admissions under JEE Advanced are as follows:

  • General category candidates (from the common merit list) – 46.5%
  • General EWS – 4%
  • OBC-NCL candidates – 27%
  • SC candidates – 15%
  • ST candidates – 7.5%
  • PWD candidates - Horizontal reservation of 5% in all the above categories
  1. Age Limit: The General category candidates should have been born on or after 1st October 1996. Considering the 5 years age relaxation for the reserved category candidates, they should have been born on or after 1st October 1991.
  2. Maximum Attempts: Maximum two attempts that too in two consecutive years.
  3. Academic Qualification: An applicant should have passed the 12th standard. The exam qualifying year should be 2021 or 2022.
  4. Earlier Admission in IITs: Candidates should not have been admitted into the IITs earlier, neither should have accepted its offers. If the aspirants have enrolled in any IIT programme and have discontinued soon after, they will not be considered eligible for the exam. Find the complete norms below:
  • Candidates have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the seven IITs for the first time in the year 2021 can appear in JEE Advanced.
  • Applicants who paid seat acceptance fee in the year 2021 but (i) did not report at any reporting centre OR, (ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR, (iii) had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment process for IITs, during the joint seat allocation in 2021 are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2022.

Exam Syllabus

JEE Advanced exam will be conducted under the flagship of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as a computer-based test. Result & Counselling

Counselling

After qualifying the JEE Advanced 2022, candidates require to appear for JoSAA Counselling by using these simple steps:

  • To begin with, register for JoSAA portal and fill your choices for taking admission.
  • After this, check the seat allotment result, when it is published and you will be notified which college you will get based on your marks and choices filled.
  • If you are satisfied with the allotted college then complete the documentation process, or else you can participate in the further counselling process.

Apart from qualifying JEE Advanced 2022 exam, you will require to fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria to take admission in the IITs.

  • The students must have at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates must be at least 65%.

Or

  • The students must be qualifying in the Top 20 percentile of their respective boards.
  • Those who opt for Mining Machinery Engineering, Mining Engineering, Integrated M.Sc. program in Geology or Geophysics, or Petroleum Engineering should not have any form of colour blindness.
  • Female candidates can’t apply for the Mining Engineering course.

Registration & Application Process

  1. Make sure to mark all the mandatory fields and filled them properly.
  2. In case, you provide any wrong detail or submit incomplete application, the exam conducting authority will reject the JEE Advanced registration form.
  3. Before submitting the JEE Advanced Application Form, cross-check all the filled-in information correctly.
  4. Internet Explorer (version 11 and above), Mozilla Firefox (version 50 to 61) or Google Chrome (version 50 to 69) are some of the preferred web browsers to fill JEE Advanced application form. Before filling the registration forms, candidates should be ready with a high-speed internet connection. Also, candidates are advised not to fill JEE Advanced registration form on mobile.
