The University of North Bengal is a state university in West Bengal, established by an Act of the Legislature of West Bengal in 1962 with a mission to teach, train and carry out research in various branches of learning and to extend higher education to the growing needs of society. Its campus covers nearly 315.99 acres at the foothills of the high Himalaya, and it has acquired further land at Jalpaiguri, beside the Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, for a second centre of higher education.
