This Karnataka state university started operating on 21 September 2012 under an ordinance of the state government and began functioning independently on 1 April 2013. On 26 July 2021 its name changed from University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga to Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences. It is the first integrated university in Karnataka to hold agriculture, horticulture and forestry sciences together, works across seven districts, and is headquartered at Iruvakki in Sagara taluk of Shivamogga district.
