TERI School of Advanced Studies was set up as a trust in 1998 to run academic programmes alongside the research on energy, environment and sustainability carried out by its sponsoring society, The Energy and Resources Institute. Its first master's programmes were in environmental studies and natural resources management. It was housed inside TERI at the Darbari Seth Block of the India Habitat Centre from 1998 to 2008, when it moved to its own green campus at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi.
