Shivaji University is a state university at Kolhapur in Maharashtra, named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and founded under the Shivaji University Act of 1962. It was inaugurated on 18 November 1962 by Dr. Radhakrishnan, then President of India, to answer the regional needs of south Maharashtra. Its jurisdiction covers the Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts, and it teaches across arts, social science, science, commerce, education, fine arts, law, medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, and engineering and technology.
