Punjabi University is a state university at Patiala, Punjab, established on 30 April 1962 under Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961 to further the cause of Punjabi language, art and literature. It is the second university in the world to be named after a language, after the Hebrew University of Israel. It has worked from its 316-acre Patiala campus since 1965 and teaches humanities, arts, sciences, engineering, languages and technology across more than 70 teaching and research departments.
