Madurai Kamaraj University was established in 1965 as a State Government University by an Act of the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly.
Madurai Kamaraj University was established in 1965 as a State Government University by an Act of the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly. Its campus sits about 13 km from Madurai city on the Madurai-Theni highway, at the base of the Nagamalai hills, spread over roughly 600 acres. It runs 77 departments across 20 schools, offering postgraduate, M.Phil and PhD programmes, and oversees 94 affiliated colleges.
