Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 1984 under the state government's liberal education policy, growing out of the Krishna Charitable Hospital and Medical Research Centre that had opened with 200 beds in 1982. Its registered office is at Malkapur, near Dhebewadi Road, in Karad taluka, Satara district, Maharashtra, on a 57-acre campus. It now operates as Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth, a deemed-to-be university.
