The UPSC NDA 2023 notification was released by the Union Public Service Commission on the official website informing the total number of vacancies for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force on 2 January 2023. The admit cards for UPSC NDA I 2022 are available on the official website in March 2023. The UPSC NDA I 2023 exam will be conducted on Apr 16, 2023. Through UPSC NDA 2023 exam, the individuals get a golden opportunity to be a part of the incredible men who are an integral part of the defence system of the country and who serve as the lords of the Land, Air, and Waters of the Indian Subcontinent. Through this exam, the individuals are recruited in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This is a national-level test conducted by the UPSC twice a year normally in the month of April and September.

What is the UPSC NDA 2023 exam?

UPSC NDA is a national-level entrance examination for individuals who want to be a part of the Army, Air Force, or Navy. The individuals are picked based on a written examination, psychological aptitude test, intelligence test, personality test, and interview. UPSC NDA is conducted twice a year, in April and September.

Any student who has qualified for his class 12th examination or writing their class 12th examination can appear for the NDA Test. The interview is conducted by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defense (SSB). The student will have to clear all the previous tests in order to sit for the interview round. 

As per the data available, around 4 lakh candidates appear for the test every year. Out of these 4 lakh students, only a meager 6,000 are called for the SSB interview. Around 66.7% of the candidates fail the examination. The interview lasts for 5 days.

The students who are wishing to sit for the UPSC NDA 2023 examination are advised to check the exam pattern of the exam to get an idea of the examination. The Union Public Service Commission sets the UPSC NDA exam pattern. The NDA exam is conducted in offline mode. It will be a pen and paper-based test. There is a negative marking scheme in UPSC NDA. For every wrong answer, the student will have to lose some marks. The students who will score qualifying marks in the NDA 2023 written exam will be selected for the next phase which is the SSB interview. In the interview, the students are tested for intelligence and personality test.

NDA 2023 Interview

The students who will clear the UPSC NDA 2023 written test will be called for the interview process. The interview process has two stages- The psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test. Applicants qualifying for the stage one interview process will be considered for the stage 2 process.

NDA 2023 Medical Test

After clearing the SSB interview, candidates are required to undergo a medical test.

Eligibilty

What is the eligibility required for the UPSC NDA 2023 exam?

The students should make sure that they check the NDA 2023 Eligibility before filling up the application form. NDA 2023 Eligibility consists of Nationality, Age Limit, Gender, Minimum Qualifications, and Physical Standards.

1) Nationality: The nationality criteria for the UPSC NDA exam 2023 are mentioned below:

  • Citizen of India
  • Subject of Bhutan
  • Subject of Nepal
  • A Tibetan refugee came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement in India.
  • Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanent settlement.

Maximum Age 18.7 years (not earlier than 2nd January 2003)/ 19 years during the commencement of the course
  • Female candidates and married candidates are not eligible to apply for the examination.

3) Minimum Qualification:

The students who want to sit for UPSC NDA should know the required minimum qualification of the exam.

  • For the Army Wing of National Defence Academy: The student should have passed the class 12 examination conducted by a state education board or university.
  • For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: The student should have passed class 12 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a state education board or university.
  • The aspirants who are appearing in class 12 or equivalent examinations can also apply for the exam.

4) Physical Standards: The physical standards for the aspirants of UPSC NDA are given below.

  • The aspirants seeking admission to the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy examinations should be physically fit as per the physical standards set by the conducting authority.
  • The students who have resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of the Armed Forces are not allowed to apply for the exam.

What is the UPSC NDA 2023 Syllabus?

The syllabus for the NDA 2023 exam is divided into two Papers - Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (General Ability). The syllabus of the exam is set by the UPSC board. The subject-wise syllabus is provided below for the students.

For Mathematics:

  • Algebra
  • Matrices and Determinants
  • Trigonometry
  • Analytical Geometry of two and three Dimensions
  • Differential Calculus
  • Integral Calculus and Differential Equations
  • Vector Algebra
  • Statistics and Probability

 For General Ability:

  • Part 'A' - English:  Grammar and Usage, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Cohesion etc.
  • Part 'B' - General Knowledge:  Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography, and Current Events.

Result & Counselling

UPSC NDA 2023 Results:

The results of the UPSC NDA exam are released online on the official website of the exam. Results will be updated in the form of a PDF and the student can download and view the roll numbers of candidates who are shortlisted to attend the interview process. Then the shortlisted students will have to register themselves on the official website. After the results of the interview are announced the final mark list of the students will be released within 15 days and students can see it until 30 days.

After the declaration of NDA 2023 results, a merit list will be prepared by UPSC on the basis of which the student will have to appear before a services selection board for the Intelligence and Personality test where the candidates for the Army/Navy wings of the NDA and 10+2 cadet entry scheme of the Naval Academy will be judged on Officers Potentiality and those for the Air Force in addition to the above will have to qualify Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS).
