What is the UPSC CSE 2023 examination?

The UPSC CSE 2023 exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Through this examination, the individuals are recruited for top government services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc. This exam is considered to be the toughest examination in India. The UPSC CSE exam is divided into three stages. The students need to clear all the stages in order to get the desired government service. These three stages are prelims, mains and interview round. If the student wants to sit for the UPSC CSE exam, he/she should be a graduate. The minimum age required for this exam is 21 years.

What is the exam pattern of the UPSC CSE 2023 exam?

The UPSC CSE 2023 exam is divided into three stages: Prelims, Mains, and interview round. In UPSC prelims, objective-type questions are asked. The UPSC Mains is a descriptive exam which the student will only give when he/she will clear the prelims round. After clearing the Mains exam, the student will be called for an interview. The duration of prelims and mains is 2 hours and 3 hours respectively. Both will be conducted in offline mode.

UPSC 2023 Prelims:

The UPSC Prelims is divided into 2 papers. In Paper I, the student will have to clear the cutoff decided by the commission, whereas the student will have to score 33% marks in Paper II. The exam pattern for each paper is given below:

The UPSC CSE 2023 Mains exam has 9 papers. The details about each Paper are given below:

UPSC CSE 2023 Interview:

The interview round can be given only after the student qualifies for the mains exam. The interview is conducted by a designated panel of experts. After the interview, a merit list is prepared and students whose names will be there on the merit list will be called for training in the respective service training centres.

What is the eligibility required for the UPSC CSE 2023 exam?

The students can check the below-mentioned eligibility criteria for the exam.

1) Nationality: The student should be

• A citizen of India
• A subject of Bhutan
• A subject of Nepal
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement.
• A Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Sri Lanka, Burma, Pakistan, and East African Countries of Malawi, Zaire, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanent settlement.

2) Educational Qualification: The student should be a graduate in any discipline. The students who are appearing in the final year exam can also apply for this examination.

3) Age Limit: The student should be at least 21 years old and should not have attained 32 years. Age relaxation is given for various categories. The age limit for various categories is given below:

4) Number of Attempts: The student can give the UPSC CSE exam 6 times at most. However, If the student belongs to the OBC category, he/she can give the exam 9 times. There is no such limit on the number of attempts for the students belonging to the SC/ST category.

What is the syllabus of the UPSC CSE 2023 examination?

As discussed above, the examination is divided into 3 stages. For every stage, the syllabus changes. The students can check the detailed syllabus of all the stages below.

UPSC 2023 Prelims:

The syllabus for the prelims round includes General Intelligence & Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, General English, General Awareness, science, etc. There are two papers in the Prelims exam GS and CSAT. The syllabus for each paper is given below:

Syllabus for Paper I (General Studies):

• Current events of national and international importance.
• History of India and Indian National Movement.
• Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
• Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity, and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
• General Science.

Syllabus for Paper-II (CSAT):

• Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability
• Decision-making and problem-solving
• General mental ability

UPSC 2023 Mains:

IAS 2022 syllabus for Mains includes Essay Writing and Letter/Application writing. The Essays are based on the GS topics that are mentioned in paper I of the Prelims. Also, two papers will be based on the optional subject chosen by the candidates.

UPSC CSE 2023 Results:

The results of the exam are declared on the official website. The student will have to first score more than the cutoff decided for the IAS 2023 Prelims Exam to be eligible to attend the IAS 2023 Mains examination. Once he/she clears the prelims and mains round then the student will get the opportunity to sit for the interview round. The result of the interview process will also be announced on the official website.

• First, go to the official website of the exam ie www.upsc.gov.in and click on the 'Active Examinations' link.
• Once the student will click on the Active Exams link, a page will open where the student can click on the link to the Civil Services Exam.
• There will be a link for IAS 2023 written result. Click on the link.
• A pdf will open where you can see those who've cleared the exam as per the Roll number.

What is the registration and admission process for the UPSC CSE 2023 exam?

The students who are planning to sit for this year's UPSC CSE exam should make sure that they satisfy all the eligibility criteria of the relevant post before applying for the examination.  The students who do not want to give the exam this year can also withdraw their application within the time period announced by the conducting authority. The application form for the exam is released on the official website of the exam.

How to apply for the UPSC CSE 2023 examination?

The registration process is divided into 2 parts Part 1 and Part 2. The students can follow the below-mentioned steps while applying for the examination.

For Part 1 registration:

• Go to the official website and click on the link "Apply Online".
• Click on the tab "Online Application for the various exam of UPSC" and click on the "New Registration" tab.
• Now register yourself on the website. Once the registration is done, the student will receive the login credentials on the registered email ID.
• Now login with your login credentials and open the form.
• Enter your Name, Father's Name, Mother's Name, Gender, Community, etc in the form.
• Enter educational details and contact details etc.
• Once all the personal details are filled in the form, the student will fill in the identity details, the number of attempts, and marks obtained in graduation level details. 
• Now preview the form and submit it. After submission, the student will get a registration ID for part 2 of registration.

For Part 2 registration:

• The student will log in with the registration ID and date of birth.
• Now he/she will do the application fee payment.
• Now he/she will select the prelims exam centre.
• After that, he/she will upload the necessary documents in the prescribed format.
• A final declaration will be shown on the screen. The student will check the box and submit the form.
• Once the form is submitted, the student will receive a confirmation message on the registered mobile number and email address.
