About NID DAT 2023 exam:
The NID DAT 2023 Prelims exam was conducted on Jan 8, 2023. The admit card for the same was released on Jan 2, 2023. The NID DAT 2023 Mains exam is going to be conducted from 20 March to 23 April 2023.
Students who want to get admission into India's top Design Institute, the National Institute of Design, first qualify for the NID DAT exam. NID DAT 2023 is a national-level exam to get admission into one of the 7 institutes across India that are Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Kurukshetra, and Jorhat. All the information related to NID DAT 2023 is provided below for the students who want to appear for the exam.
Exam Pattern
NID DAT 2023 Exam Pattern:
Candidates who are wishing to sit for the NIT DAT 2023 exam are advised to first check the exam pattern for a better understanding of the NID DAT 2023. Through this exam, the student's designing skills, creativity, reasoning abilities, and problem-solving skills are assessed. It is very essential that the aspirants go through the below-mentioned details on the exam pattern.
For B.Des:
- The exam is conducted in two stages. One is the prelims stage and the second one is the mains stage. The NID DAT Prelims exam is a pen and paper-based written test while NID DAT Mains exam is a studio test.
- In the prelims exam, the question paper will consist of 100 marks. The duration of the exam will be 3 hours. The language of the exam will be English. The test might involve both visuals and texts.
- Only those students will be allowed to sit for the mains exam who will qualify for the prelims round. The NID DAT 2023 mains exam will be for 100 marks and will be conducted in a studio setup. The medium of this test is also English.
For M.Des Exam Pattern:
- The students wanting to appear for NID DAT Exam for the M.Des course will have to go through 2 stages of the exam. The first stage will be prelims and the second will be the mains round.
- DAT Prelims Test comprises of CDAT (Common Design Aptitude Test) and a discipline-specific test. The time given for DAT Prelims is 2.5 hours (30 mins for CDAT +2 hours of the discipline-specific test) in total. Candidates who are applying for 2 disciplines, will have to attempt 2 discipline-specific tests along with CDAT. For those candidates, the total exam duration would be 4.5 hours.
- The students who will qualify prelims round will be allowed to sit for the Mains round. The mains exam will also comprise two stages. One is a studio test and the second one is the interview.
- For the studio test, the student will get 3 hours. The total marks for the studio test will be 100. The medium of the exam is English. The test is followed by interviews for each discipline. Interview sessions are conducted in the same exam centres as the studio tests.
NID DAT PhD:
- For PhD, the exam is divided into three stages. One is shortlisting of candidates, the second is the design research test (DRT) and the third is the interview round.
- In the first stage, the research proposals of the candidates are evaluated and examined to be in alignment with NID's research objective. Only the shortlisted candidates will go to the subsequent rounds. In stage 2, DRT is conducted and is held in Ahmedabad. After this round, qualifying candidates sit for the interview sessions in front of the NID committee.

Eligibilty
NID DAT 2023 Eligibility criteria for bachelors and masters programs:
NID DAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria for the Bachelor and Master programs are provided below.
Eligibility for the Bachelor of Design/GDPD:
- The applicant should have completed or must be appearing for the final examination of 10+2 in 2022-23 or equivalent from a recognized board.
Eligibility for the Master of Design/GDPD:
The following are the required educational qualifications for fulfilling the eligibility criteria:
- The aspirant should have a graduation degree of 4 years in any specialization after 10+2 standard or equivalent from any recognized University in India. Candidates should have passed the Degree by May/June 2023 for the process of document verification.
- The students who have a Bachelor's Degree of a minimum of 3 years in any specialization after 12th standard or equivalent are also allowed to sit for the exam but he/she should have passed the examination before June 2023.
- The students who have a Full-time Diploma of 4 years in Architecture/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/Design after 12th standard are also eligible for the exam but he/she should pass the Diploma course before May/June 2023 before the NID DAT exam date 2023.
Eligibility for PhD. Program
- The aspirant should be a citizen of India.
- The student should have a Master's level qualification in Design or a bachelor's level qualification in Design from NID with 3 years of professional or teaching experience or a master's Degree in Philosophy (e.g. M.Phil) in Design or successful completion of the Faculty Development Program of NID or a similar Design program of 2 years from any other recognized university/institute.
The students who have not qualified for their final board exam or equivalent before the in-person counselling will not be eligible for admission.

They should try to register for the exam before the last date of the application form submission, without the late fee. It is advised that the applicants should read the instructions clearly, make sure that they meet the required criteria before filling up the form, and also produce the necessary documents for the same.

- Step 1: Go to the official web portal of NID. Now enter a valid email ID, mobile number, date of birth and other required details. After the registration process, the login credentials are sent to your registered email address and phone number.
- Step 2: Now login into your account and click on 'DAT Application Form '
- Step 3: Fill in the application form and then click 'Save & Proceed '
- Step 4: Now, click on 'Upload Document '. Upload all the important documents such as the photograph, signature and caste certificate (only if applicable) according to the prescribed specifications. Then click 'Save & Proceed '
- Step 5: In the last, pay the application fee through the means provided and then finally click on 'Submit '
