Established in the year 1951, National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad is a public university. It works autonomously under the Department of Industrial Policy &amp; Promotion, Ministry of Commerce &amp; Industry, Government of India. The university has been declared as an &lsquo;Institute of National Importance&rsquo; by the Act of Parliament, by virtue of the National Institute of Design Act 2014. Admission to all the courses other than Ph.D programmes is done based on marks obtained by candidates in NID DAT.
