Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is one of the thirty National Institutes of Technology in the country. It was established in 1960 as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering under a scheme sponsored by the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra, formed by amalgamating the State Government Engineering College that had functioned at Nagpur since July 1956. In October 1962 the Governing Board resolved to name it after the engineer, planner and statesman Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Its present location covers about 214 acres.
