Tripura University - Agartala

Tripura University began in 1976 as the post-graduate wing of Calcutta University, became a state university in 1987 and a central university in 2007. It teaches through five faculties, forty-four departments and four centres of study, with a further four departments under its Directorate of Distance Education, which reaches employed students and socio-economically deprived sections in the far-flung hilly areas of Tripura. It also works to preserve the state's indigenous art forms and oral traditions.
