Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology sits on a campus of more than 250 acres in Patiala, Punjab. It was established in 1956 as a joint venture between the then state of PEPSU, the Central Government and the Patiala Technical Education Trust founded by Lala Karam Chand Thapar. Its trust deed of 9 April 1956 provides for undergraduate and postgraduate education in engineering and technology, close interaction with industry and an emphasis on basic and applied research.
