South Asian University is an international university in New Delhi set up by the SAARC member states, following an inter-ministerial Agreement for Establishment signed on 4 April 2007 at the 14th SAARC Summit. It opened its doors to students in August 2010, moved in 2011 from a temporary campus lent by Jawaharlal Nehru University to Akbar Bhawan in Chanakyapuri, and shifted to its own residential campus at Maidan Garhi in January 2023. It concentrates on research and postgraduate programmes, and its students and teachers come predominantly from the eight SAARC countries.
