Presidency University is a state university in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Presidency University is a state university in Kolkata, West Bengal. It began in 1817 as the Hindoo College, the earliest institution of higher learning in the modern sense in Asia, which was renamed Presidency College and turned into a government institution in 1855 and admitted women from 1944. The West Bengal legislature conferred university status on it on 7 July 2010, with teaching and research centred on the humanities, social sciences and basic sciences.
