Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology is a deemed to be university at Vallam, on the Thanjavur to Trichy highway in Tamil Nadu. Prof. P. Murugesan founded it in 1984 as Ram Institute, to bring computer education to Thanjavur district, and it grew to take in an arts and science college, a college of engineering and technology, a college of education, a research institution and a polytechnic. It teaches through schools of engineering and technology, arts and science, education, commerce and management, agriculture, law and pharmacy.
