Pondicherry University is a university at Kalapet in Puducherry, founded in 1985 to serve the needs of the local community. It runs about 300 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on a 780 acre campus and has 119 affiliated colleges, alongside campuses at Karaikal, Sri Vijaya Puram and Lakshadweep. It was the first university in the country to adopt the Choice-Based Credit System.
