North Eastern Hill University - Shillong

North-Eastern Hill University sits at Umshing Mawkynroh in Shillong, Meghalaya. It was created by the North-Eastern Hill University Act (24 of 1973), passed by both Houses of Parliament and assented to by the President on 26 May 1973, and is charged with teaching and research and with the advancement of the hill areas of the North-East. Its permanent campus stands on about 1,225 acres given by the Government of Meghalaya. A second campus opened at Tura in February 1996 with departments of English, Garo and Education, later joined by Rural Development and Agricultural Production.
