Nitte (Deemed to be University) is a multi-campus institution in Karnataka with campuses at Nitte, Mangaluru and Bengaluru. It grew out of the institutions of the Nitte Education Trust, set up in 1979 by Justice K S Hegde, and was constituted as a university in 2008 around the AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences. KS Hegde Medical Academy and the pharmacy, nursing and physiotherapy colleges joined in 2009, followed by institutes of communication, science education and research, architecture, and speech and hearing.
