Nalanda University at Rajgir, Bihar is a modern revival of the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara, which flourished from the 5th to 12th century CE and drew scholars from around the world for eight centuries. The present university was established under the Nalanda University Act, 2010, and enrolled its first batch of students in September 2014.
