Mysore Medical College and Research Institute traces to a Vaidyashala (medical school) set up in Mysore in 1833 under Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. The college itself was established in June/July 1924, first operating in Bangalore near Victoria Hospital before it was shifted to Mysore in 1930 at the request of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV.
