Madras Medical College traces to the Madras Medical School, established in 1835 as an adjunct of the Madras General Hospital in Chennai.
Madras Medical College traces to the Madras Medical School, established in 1835 as an adjunct of the Madras General Hospital in Chennai. It became a college in 1850, with Dr. James Shaw as its first Principal. The 1897 anatomy building on campus, known as the Red Fort, is a heritage structure now being restored as a museum of the college's history.
