Kannur University was established by Act 22 of 1996 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, inaugurated on 2 March 1996 by then Chief Minister A. K.
Kannur University was established by Act 22 of 1996 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, inaugurated on 2 March 1996 by then Chief Minister A. K. Antony, after functioning briefly as 'Malabar University' under a Governor's ordinance from 9 November 1995. It is a multi-campus teaching and affiliating university serving Kannur and Kasaragod districts and the Mananthavady taluk of Wayanad, with campuses at Kannur, Kasaragod, Nileswaram, Mangattuparamba, Mananthavady, Payyannur and Thalassery.
