Jadavpur University is a State University founded on 24 December 1955 under the Jadavpur University Act (West Bengal Act XXXIII of 1955).
Jadavpur University traces its origins to the National Council of Education, Bengal, formed in 1906 during the Swadeshi movement, whose Bengal Technical Institute grew into the College of Engineering and Technology. The West Bengal government enacted legislation converting the institution into Jadavpur University on 24 December 1955. Its main campus is in Jadavpur, Kolkata, where it offers programmes across arts, engineering and technology, science, and interdisciplinary studies including law and management.
