The Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai was founded on 1 October 1933 as the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) of the University of Mumbai. It received partial autonomy in 1985 and full autonomous status in 1994, was renamed Mumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology in 2002, and was granted deemed-university status on 12 September 2008 under its current name. It trains and researches in chemical engineering, chemical technology and pharmaceutical sciences.
