IIT Tirupati, established in 2015, is the first of the third phase of IITs, with its foundation stone laid in March 2015. It began functioning under the mentorship of IIT Madras from the 2015-16 academic year, admitting its first B.Tech students in Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Its permanent campus, on about 548 acres at Merlapaka village on the Yerpedu-Venkatagiri highway in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, became fully operational on 1 August 2022.
