Indian Institute of Technology - Palakkad

IITs are established as Institutes of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. An IIT for Kerala was proposed in the July 2014 union budget, and IIT Madras was designated as the mentor institute that November. IIT Palakkad began at a temporary campus in the Ahalia integrated campus at Kozhipara, with its first batch of B.Tech. students welcomed on 3 August 2015. About 500 acres in Pudussery village, Palakkad district, was identified for the permanent campus in January 2015, and Prof. P.B. Sunil Kumar took charge as the institute's first Director in January 2017.
