IIT Indore, known as IITI, was established by the Government of India in 2009 as one of eight new IITs, starting classes in 2009-10 from a temporary campus at the Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilya University under the mentorship of IIT Bombay. Its permanent campus, on about 501 acres at Simrol on Khandwa Road near Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has housed the Institute's administrative offices, schools and library since February 2016.
