Engineering education at Banaras Hindu University began in 1919 with the founding of Banaras Engineering College (BENCO).
Engineering education at Banaras Hindu University began in 1919 with the founding of Banaras Engineering College (BENCO). In 1968 its engineering colleges, BENCO, College of Mining & Metallurgy and College of Technology, merged to form the Institute of Technology (IT-BHU), which became IIT (BHU) Varanasi on 29 June 2012 by an Act of Parliament.
