IISER Bhopal is one of the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research set up by the Ministry of Education (then Human Resource Development) to integrate undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with research in the basic sciences. The first two IISERs opened at Pune and Kolkata in 2006, followed by Mohali in 2007 and Bhopal in 2008. Each IISER is a degree-granting autonomous institute; IISER Bhopal is located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
