Founded in 2013, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Una is a public private partnership higher-education institution located in the rural setting of the large town of Una (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Himachal Pradesh. The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Una. Himachal Pradesh is set-up and managed by the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), the government of India to allow the students of Himachal Pradesh to gain access to the various disciplines related to Information Technology. The institute works in a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model, by extending its collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the state government of Himachal Pradesh, Hindustan Petroleum Power Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Transmission Corporation Limited. As the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Una, Himachal Pradesh seeks help from all its partners, the institute has run smoothly since its establishment in 2014.

IIIT Una, Himachal Pradesh is one of the 20 IIITs which were established by the Government of India, for the students to explore the field of Information Technology and learn comprehensively about its transgressive development. The institute is also noted as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the ministry of Human resource and development. Currently, the institute only offers B.Tech. courses in different disciplines. The institute also plans on the addition of postgraduate courses for the students to access higher education without migrating to different states for pursuing professional courses in the field of Information Technology.
