Graphic Era (Deemed to be University) in Dehradun traces its origin to 1993, when founder Kamal Ghanshala started a small computer training centre with two computers; this grew into the Graphic Era Institute of Technology in 1997, the first self-financed engineering institute in Uttarakhand, before the institution was granted deemed-university status by the UGC in 2008.
