Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 17 November 1960 as the UP Agricultural University, the first agricultural university in independent India, developed with the University of Illinois under an Indo-US technical cooperation programme. It was renamed after Govind Ballabh Pant in 1972.
