Government Medical College, Srinagar is a government medical college in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It began in 1959 in a small dispensary on the banks of the Jhelum, with Col. G V S Murthy as its first principal, and was formally inaugurated on 25 August 1961 by the then Prime Minister of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, admitting its first batch of 50 undergraduate students. Postgraduate teaching began in 1966.
