Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala, commonly known as GMC-Kottayam, is the third Medical College in Kerala and a prestigious medical institution in Kerala, established in 1962 and run and managed by the Government of Kerala. It is a Government Medical College in Kerala affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur, Kerala. The college is now recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) as the National Medical Commission (NMC), the college is situated at Gandhinagar, Kottayam, Kerala-686008. Government Medical College, Kottayam is well connected by Air, Train, and Roadways in its serene atmosphere. The college has a campus that spreads across 265 acres of beautiful land shared by two panchayats (Arpookkara and Athirampuzha) and Kottayam municipality.
Government Medical College Kottayam, the third medical college in Kerala, was established in 1962 and formally inaugurated on 3 December 1962 by the then Chief Minister R. Sankar. Its 265-acre campus is shared by the Arpookkara and Athirampuzha panchayats and Kottayam municipality, and it serves as a tertiary care referral hospital for Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts, including pilgrims visiting Sabarimala.
