The Faculty of Dental Sciences at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, in Varanasi began in 1978 as a department offering postgraduate courses in two dental specialties and was elevated to an independent faculty in 2005. It introduced a Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme in 2008 and now runs postgraduate training across all nine recognised dental specialties, serving as the main centre for advanced dental education and treatment in the Purvanchal region.
