Dibrugarh University, the easternmost university in India, was established in 1965 under the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965, enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly. Located at Rajabheta, five kilometres south of Dibrugarh town on a 550-acre campus, it hosts 177 affiliated colleges and institutes spread across nine districts of Assam and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities.
