Annamalai University is a unitary, teaching and residential university at Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, with a campus of nearly 1000 acres, 10 faculties and 49 departments of study. Rajah Sir S. R. M. Annamalai Chettiar founded Sri Minakshi College, Sri Minakshi Tamil College and Sri Minakshi Sanskrit College at Chidambaram in the early 1920s, and in 1928 agreed to hand them to the local Government for establishing a university. It was established on 1 January 1929 under the Annamalai University Act 1928, and has been governed by the Annamalai University Act, 2013 since 25 September 2013.
