Anand Agricultural University was established in 2004 at Anand in Gujarat under Gujarat Act No. 5 of 2004, dated 29 April 2004, and was carved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University. It supports the farming community through education, research and extension in agriculture, horticulture, engineering, product processing and home science, and its work spans commodity sectors from rice, maize and tobacco to animal breeding and dairy products. It runs seven colleges, seventeen research centres and six extension education institutes across nine districts of Gujarat.
