All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur is one of six AIIMS institutes set up by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, which planned new AIIMS-like institutions in under-served parts of the country to correct regional imbalances in tertiary healthcare and to reach self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training. Its medical college teaches through pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical departments including anatomy, physiology, community and family medicine, pathology and forensic medicine.
