What is the BS-MS course?

The full form of this course is a Bachelor of Science + Master of Science course.  It is an integrated dual degree program in science that awards both graduate and postgraduate degrees. The duration of this program is 5 years. After completing this course, the students will get both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The course strengthens the core concepts in the disciplines chosen by the students. This is followed by developing expertise in specific topics and preparation of a master's thesis by students.

After completing this degree, the students can expect an average salary of 5 lakhs per annum. Admission into this course is given right after completing the class 12th examination. Science stream (PCM/PCB) in 10+2 is a must for this course.

What is the duration of the BS-MS course?

The BS-MS course is an integrated dual-degree program. The duration of this course is 5 years. After completion of this course, the students get both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Here are some of the entrance examinations for BS-MS courses. 

  • JEE Advanced- The full of this exam is the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced. It is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs. JEE Advanced is a national-level engineering examination through which students get admission to various undergraduate science and technology programmes.
  • NEST- The full form of the NEST exam is the National Entrance Screening Test. This exam is conducted annually. Through the NEST exam, students get admission to the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and the Centre of Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai.
  • IISER Aptitude Test: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research conducts this examination. Through this exam, the students get admission to integrated BS-MS programmes. The students who applied through SCB are required to appear in IISER Aptitude Test. The students who apply for JEE Advanced or KVPY channel are provided direct admission.

Eligibilty & Entry Requirements

What is the eligibility required for the BS-MS course?

The students who are planning to pursue the BS-MS integrated course are advised to first check the requirements of the course. In order to get admission, the students should fulfil all the requirements of the course. If the aspirant fails to fulfil the requirement, his/her admission will get cancelled. The detailed eligibility criteria are given below.

  • The student should have passed his/her class 12th examination with Physics, Chemistry and Maths, or Biology subjects.
  • Cut-off marks entirely depend on the entrance examination merit list. Generally, students should have passed the class 12th examination with at least 60% marks for admission.
  • There is no maximum age required for admission into the BS-MS course.
